Say: He is Allah, the One!

He begetteth not nor was begotten.

Allah, the eternally Besought of all!

And there is none comparable unto Him. (112. Al-Ikhlas 1-4)

Question:

It is customary to invite people for a feast to the home of the dead person. After he/she (the dead) has been buried. Is this permissible?

Answer:

It is not permissible. This custom is a Bidat-e-sayyiah (an evil innovation). It is a custom innovated by wrongdoers and given religious sanction by them. They have exceeded the bounds in this custom and have thus strayed from the right path. It is necessary to abstain from indulgence in this un-Islamic custom.
